Welcome New and Returning Members of WREC!

Meeting Information
All meetings will be held this year in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering room S408 unless otherwise stated. Meetings are currently scheduled to be on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. and last about two hours. We also plan on meeting on Fridays; the time will be decided at the first meeting of the year, which will take place on August 27th. Along with general body meetings on Tuesdays and Fridays, we plan on having occasional build days on Saturdays. These will not have a formal start and end time. We will send out a message when we have the lab unlocked, and you are free to join us as long as you are available.
Plans for this Upcoming Year
Our plans center around launching our work-in-progress rocket, for which we’ve already made the parts. The first order of business will be assembling all the parts for our rocket and testing mount. We’ll next be starting the push towards a static fire, with various challenges in logistics, engineering, and more. We aim to collect lots of data in the static testing campaign, potentially exploring optimizations on the propulsion system. This will culminate in a rocket flight out at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry in the Mojave. We'll analyze the data once we have tested the rocket and begin working on the next big rocket.
Preliminary Schedule
Here’s an abbreviated overall list of what we plan to do this school year:
-
In the fall, we’ll be working on assembling and testing our propulsion system, with multiple static tests and static fires locally in Tucson.
-
In the early spring (we hope), we will begin our launch campaign with lots of planning, tests, and checklists, culminating in a multi-day trip to the Mojave desert to fly our rocket at the FAR launch site.
-
To close the year, we’ll be starting work on our next rocket, and potentially optimizing and reflying the current rocket to keep learning more about liquid rocketry.
