Information About Our Events
General Meeting Rescheduled
Indeed, our general meeting today was delayed. As seen by the message above (or the side if you are on your phone), the general meeting has been rescheduled to next Thursday, October 3rd.
What Have We Been Doing?
In short, the SJP board has been at work. I need not to preach to the choir, but it's worth to be said— effective and well-planned actions/events require a significant amount of time to plan. Considering the adversarial environment we find ourselves in, as you could imagine, there are an extensive set of components we must factor into our planning.
Extremely Exciting News Coming Soon
SJP has been no less than toiling away at a peculiar facet of the Palestinian student resistance movement. This announcement will come soon once it is finalized. Let me personally tell you, I am SO HYPED to share the news with you all. I'll give a short quip, and say that we are the first in Arizona to do it.
The Vigil
We have planned a vigil on October 4th, 2024 to honor our martyrs and victims from Gaza, the West Bank, broader Palestine, and Lebanon.
Over the week, we have had to bear witness to the continued massacres perpetuated by the Israeli Occupation Army. These are blatant war-crimes with no international defense.
Let's repeat and revisit a short, universally accepted rule: No entity may bomb, invade, ravage, or seek to control another sovereign nation. What we have seen is a repetitive disregard for international law and universal norms by Israel. Lebanon, Syria, the West Bank, Gaza, and beyond—it is not normal to bomb slews of independent entities over a single weekend. Not only is it not normal, it is criminal.
Join us for a multi-faith prayer, speeches, show of unity, and community rehabilitation as we mourn those who have perished in this atrocious time of violence.
The Cultural Night Event
In partnership with the Middle Eastern and North African Student Association, the Syrian American Club, the Arabic Language and Culture Club, the Muslim Student Association, and the South Asian Student Association, SJP is proud to showcase our annual culture night and festival on October 11th!
Happening on the UA Mall, come for authentic middle-eastern and south asian food, an eccentric display of culture with clothing, music, and art, and a fashion show!
Please refer to our (or any of our partner organizations) Instagram @sjpuarizona for more information and the sign up!
Small Message**
Short Term Actions And Rallies Are Not Everything
Student resistance has existed for decades. Although we tend to associate protests, civil unrest, and marches of being emblemahtic of various student resistance movements of the 21st century and before, they are but a show of strength and unity, built on a concretized foundation that took time to form.
Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) at the University of Arizona is still in its formative years. As we become an appreciable entity on campus, the long-term sustainability of SJP is a constant goal in all of our minds. We strive everyday behind the scenes to create a set foundation so that SJP can continue beyond just our tenure.
And whilst it may seem like SJP may be "inactive" or "quiet" during certain times, remember, ideas don't materialize over night; an action without direction or an ex post (after the fact) plan does nothing.
Let's work prudently to make efficacious change on campus. Let's be the change.
